From Robin Hood to the gang of hoodlums in Ocean’s 13, America craves a good heist flick. Robbing the rich to give to the poor — or just robbing the rich — makes for a compelling plot and a satisfying end. The glue that holds the heist together is universal: the bond of friendship between thieves.
Get your own gang of thieves together and try to break the bank — the legal way — in Las Vegas while living large like Danny Ocean. Continue reading to learn about the perks and treats available to high rollers in Las Vegas and beyond.

High Rollers
True high rollers enjoy the subtle perks. Flights to Vegas in a private jet with a vintage luxury car waiting at the airport are rote for them. What they seek is the recognition of their position in casino society, the experience of commanding the attention of staff, and staying away from the throngs on the gaming floor where “all the rest” of the casino patrons play. Here are some of the perks they get:
Free Betting Horse Racing Race Track Systems Tips
How To Have A Good Day At The Races: Where to be. Best: The boxes, leased for the season, mostly by horse owners. Only a private arrangement with the box holder will give you access. A big tip to the usher won’t help most outsiders.
Next best: The clubhouse section. Available to anyone willing to pay an extra dollar or two over the grandstand (tourist class) price. The clubhouse is a little cleaner, closer to the finish line and paddock area (where the horses are walked and saddled before each race).
Sitting in the grandstand is not all bad for the occasional racegoer; the ambiance can be fun and the seats are comfortable.
Neither clubhouse nor grandstand admission entitles you to a seat, however. So reserve seats in advance, especially on weekends. (If you don’t have a reserved seat but find an empty one, fold a sheet of newspaper into the seat slats. This indication that the seat is taken will almost invariably be respected.)
Alternative: Most major racetracks have tiered, glass-enclosed clubhouse dining rooms. Food is fair and the tables provide a comfortable view of the races. (Closed-circuit TV also available.) It’s okay to keep a table for the entire afternoon even though you walk away to the betting windows, etc. Table reservations are always advisable.
Getting there. Traffic jams, in and out of the racetrack, are inevitable. Arrive early or very late. Regular parking lots will usually leave you some distance from the entrance gate. Preferred parking lot (at a moderate surcharge) is better. Valet service is convenient going in, but inevitably means a lengthy wait on the way out, when the track is crowded. (Recommended only on weekdays.) See Betting Horse Racing for more information.
Horse selection tips. Watch the horses close up being saddled and walked in the paddock area. (Bring lightweight binoculars or rent them at the track.)
Favorites: Betting on favorites is the simplest way to give yourself a chance to be a small winner-or, more likely, a small loser. (Approximately one favorite in three wins.) Indiscriminate favorite betting is a losing proposition. Statistics indicate that younger horses (two- and three-year-olds) provide a somewhat higher percentage of winning favorites than do older horses. Betting these will moderately increase your chances of coming out slightly ahead.
Weight: It’s very important and often overlooked, especially in short races. The occasional bettor should look with keen interest at lighter weight horses in any race.
jockeys. Average bettor overestimates the importance of the big-name jockey. An apprentice, who has not yet made his reputation, is given a five- to ten-pound weight advantage. This and the fact that less money is bet on his mount because of its rider means a better payoff if the apprentice wins. Post Position. An inside post position is a big help. Each horse between yours and the inside rail around a full turn means your horse runs an extra horse’s length to the finish line. Of course, there is usually more crowding close to the rail, and at some tracks the footing on the inside is a bit softer, hence slower. Still, on balance, the horse in a position to “save ground” has a definite advantage.
Previous race. Horses tend to react adversely to very strong efforts. (The great Secretariat, for example, was beaten three times by much inferior horses-each time in a race that followed an unusually strong effort.) In addition, a horse that has just run an unusually good race will be heavily bet the next time it runs.
ANZPT Queenstown Gets Rolling
The Queenstown stop of the PokerStars Australia New Zealand Poker Tour began yesterday at SKYCITY casino.
Team PokerStars Pro Lee “Final Table” Nelson, APPT Sydney winner Aaron Benton and ANZPT Gold Coast champion Scott Kerr all came to play in Day 1a of the tournament, which is the only New Zealand-based event on the ANZPT.
A modest 38 players paid the NZD $2,500 entrance fee to play but after five levels of play the field had been cut down to 24.
Australian Michael Spilkin ran extremely well on Day 1a and finished as the overnight chip leader with 103,925 chips.
Day 1b of ANZPT begins today with Team PokerStars Pro Tony Hachem, Simon Watt and Jason Gray rumored to be among the field.
As part of an unusual schedule one of the previous flights for ANZPT Queenstown was actually played in Auckland over the weekend. On that day the field was narrowed down to 15 players, all of whom will be flying down to join Day 3 of ANZPT Queenstown.
ANZPT Queensland continues all this week with the final table scheduled for Sunday, July 24.
